We’re turning the sound down and reducing visitor numbers in the Croc! Lost Giants to Living Legends exhibition at Queensland Museum Kurilpa to create a calmer, more relaxed museum experience.
These quieter hours are designed to welcome guests on the autism spectrum, and anyone who would benefit from a less busy, lower-sensory environment.
To help create this experience, we’ll be:
Reducing lighting effects and turning off audio in exhibitions. All museum exhibitions will operate at lower sensory settings from 8:15am–10:00am.
Limiting ticket availability in paid exhibitions and opening earlier.
Clearly signposting areas with higher sensory stimulation.
Providing a limited number of earmuffs and sensory kits, available to borrow from the Cloakroom on Level 2.
Reducing lighting and projection effects and turning off audio in all our free and paid exhibitions, where possible.
Croc! Lost Giants to Living Legends is a paid, ticketed exhibition with strictly limited numbers. Companion cardholders and children under 5 enter free (but still require a ticket).
All museum staff have received training in autism and disability awareness to help ensure an accessible and welcoming visit for everyone.
To book a Croc! Lost Giants to Living Legends session, visit the QTIX website and select your preferred session marked 'Sensory Friendly' from the available dates.
