SPECTRUM Paints Neurodivergence in Colour at Adelaide Fringe
written and performed by Jess Turner
14 - 21 March 2026 | The Den at Dom Polski Centre
This Adelaide Fringe, audiences are invited into a vivid, intimate world of colour, movement and truth with SPECTRUM, an award-nominated solo performance by emerging theatre-maker Jess Turner, produced by Sunburnt Productions Co.
Part spoken word and part movement theatre, SPECTRUM is a raw and lyrical exploration of growing up neurodivergent. Drawing on Turner’s lived experience of AuADHD, the work unfolds through a striking interplay of metaphor, motion. You, the audience, are invited inside the experience as a rainbow is painted across the stage in real time. Each colour unlocks a chapter of childhood, adolescence and adulthood shaped by masking, mirroring, longing and confusion.
Electric, intimate and fiercely tender, SPECTRUM resists the urge to decode or conquer difference. Quietly defiant and deeply human, the work holds fast to a central truth: difference is not a deficit, but a powerful offer all of its own.
The production was first developed through Brand X’s Ground Zero residency and premiered as part of the Limitless program at Sydney Fringe Festival 2025, where it received a nomination for Best in Theatre and Jess a nomination for Best Emerging Artist — an extraordinary debut.
Blending spoken word poetry, movement and introspective storytelling, SPECTRUM invites audiences to feel deeply, reflect on identity, and consider what it means to live truthfully in a world that so often demands conformity.
Jess Turner is a writer, performer and emerging theatre-maker. In her professional life, she is an Insurance Lawyer with a combined Bachelor of Arts/Law from Sydney University. Before she was a Lawyer she was a songwriter, before she was a songwriter she was a poet, and before she was a poet she was a storyteller whose earliest memories are of telling stories to ladybugs in school yard playgrounds. Jess has dabbled in stand-up comedy, studied improv comedy at ITS, and is currently learning to dance bachata.
