The art workshops are being held in response to the cancellation of many art partnerships and workshops for As We Are artists due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to ensure that our artists continue to have access to both creativity and community. If there is ongoing interest from artists, As We Are will continue the online workshops for the foreseeable future.
KATE LESLIE graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University in 2004. Kate has held solo and group exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand, recently exhibiting as a finalist in the National Contemporary Art Awards New Zealand and Wellington Regional Art Award. Kate is currently based in Perth where she is creating a new body of works from her C19 inspired home studio.
Kate’s work celebrates the everyday, the feminine and the natural environment. From fabulous divas to daytime naps, dreamy landscapes and jumping fish. Kate has a great understanding of colour which is evident in her work, she executes this in layers combining soft, fluid marks with line and bold brush strokes.
NATALIE SCHOLTZ is a Perth based artist with over 10 years’ experience as a drawer, painter and creative professional in community development and the arts. Natalie has exhibited in Australia, New Zealand, Morocco and London and has completed Artist in Residence in the Blue Mountains NSW, Italy and Morocco.
Her works are not realistic portrayals, but instead are physical acts of communicating conversation with self, society and celebrating identity. Natalie paints from her home studio in Beaconsfield and draws upon mixed medium on board, paper and canvas to depict gesture, emotion, light and line. Through the exploration of figurative, portrait and still life she slightly distorts languid lines to create bold representations of the imagined, rremembered and the common place.
