Through her sound work, Los Angeles-based artist Claire Rousay creates intimate sonic renderings of everyday life. These renderings cast focus on the emotional, the transient and the incidental, and use the textural minutiae of the familiar to create wholly unimagined worlds.
In her performances she calls on found elements; voice, haptics, field recordings, conversations and other sonic curiosities, diving deeply inside them to reveal unexpected correlations and counterpoints of the places and situations we think we know.
Claire is joined by Melbourne based percussionist and composer, Maria Moles, whose 2022 album For Leolanda explores evocative electronics counterpoint by an intensely dynamic percussive environment.
CLAIRE ROUSAY
Claire Rousay's music zeroes in on personal emotions and the minutiae of everyday life – voicemails, haptics, environmental recordings, stopwatches, whispers and conversations – exploding their significance.
MARIA MOLES
Maria Moles is an Australian drummer, composer and producer based in Narrm/Melbourne.
Her solo percussion performances draw on ideas from the Kulintang music of the Philippines and contemporary electronic production to weave hypnotic webs from layers of unmetered pulse that slowly undergo subtle textural transformations.
In collaborative contexts ranging from free improvisation, jazz and contemporary composition to experimental pop, Maria contributes an acute sense of touch, placement and timbre, unashamed virtuosity and a powerful rhythmic drive.
