Now in its 18th year, the annual As We Are Art Award is the state’s premier exhibition showcasing Western Australian artists with intellectual disability.
The Award aims to empower artists with intellectual disability to express themselves creatively and share their work with the WA community.
Artists are invited to submit their best artwork, either two- or three-dimensional and in any artform, with all works available for sale.
Each year the Award attracts an average ofof 150 artists from around the state, ranging from those who are just beginning their creative journey or whom practice recreationally, to those who are emerging or established professional artists.
Entrants compete for seven highly coveted art awards, each with a corresponding cash prize of $500. Artworks are judged by a professional independent panel - this year, visual artists’ David Guhl, Kate Leslie, Tom Freeman and Jade Dolman. The judges also award a number of certificates of high commendation for outstanding works. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Award.
