What started as a howl of grief and rage in response to the constant reports of Australian women being lost to intimate partner homicide has culminated in a compelling one-woman musical about a woman determined to survive. Back to Me is a musical journey from Australian folk legend Penelope Swales, built from songs by three collaborating writers, Swales, Victoria Vigenser and Jules De Cinque. It is a 45-minute story of survival, taking one woman from homelessness to hope. Back to Me is about holding on to your voice when life is unyielding. Tilly’s journey unfolds as she finds the courage to seek help, navigate the Courts, retrieve her children and finally secure safe housing and new employment. The show uses a mix of original songs and multimedia to give us a window into a process often hidden from public view. Back to Me’s mission is to create empathy for, and understanding of, the barriers women face when trying to escape a violent relationship and rebuild their lives. It is an important, relevant and timely production about violence against women.

Event Access
The performance on Wednesday, September 30 is a low sensory performance. There will not be a complete blackout, audience members will be able to move around and a support person will be available.
Venue Access
Booking is required.
Downstairs at the Motley Bauhaus is fully accessible. There are no steps to access the venue from the street nor throughout the downstairs areas. All passageways are at least 100cm wide, including access to the downstairs theatre. The downstairs areas include the blackbox theatre, the reception/bar area, recording studio and toilets.
There are double doors at the front entrance which you may require help opening. You can get the attention of the front of house staff through the glass frontage and they will asssit you.
All toilets in the venue are unisex. The downstairs toilets are located in the rear right hand side of the venue accessed via a passageway next to the blackbox theatre. There is signage leading the way. The first toilet you come to on your right is the access toilet.
There are no accessible parking bays. There are a number of public transport options. Bus 26, 200, 207 within 20m. Bus 250, 251 within 55m. Night Bus 955,966 within 347m. Trams 1, 6 within 324m. Tram 96 within 366m.
The nearest train stations are Melbourne Central and Parliament (both 1km).
