Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra proudly presents HK25 & Chao Feng—a grand concert with free admission that will take place on Sunday, 4 September 2022 at Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre.
The concert will be an auditory feast of beautiful melodies and specially selected festive pieces that features a colourful range of traditional Chinese musical instruments. Come celebrate with us as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the 40th anniversary of the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra. We would like to express our special thanks to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for its sole sponsorship.
Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra holds two concerts each year—one free and educational small concert, which allows the audience to have a deeper understanding of Chinese musical instruments, followed by a larger annual concert.
This year’s free concert was staged on Sunday, 17 July. In this two-hour program, in addition to the introduction of Chinese musical instruments by our conductor Mr Yat Ping Chan, there were solos from the dizi, suona, yangqin, guzheng and erhu, along with demonstrations of the pipa, sanxian, liuqin, xiaoruan, zhongruan and daruan, and ensemble performances from twenty-five musicians. Despite the extremely cold weather, the concert was enjoyed wholeheartedly by a supportive audience. The warmth of the audience’s passionate applause gave the musicians great comfort and encouragement.
After the success of the small concert, the fifty-five piece orchestra is working hard in preparation for the major event of 2022—the celebration concert, HK25 & Chao Feng 40. We invite you to join us on Sunday, 4 September, and be part of an evening filled with vibrant and joyful rhythms.
The program of HK25 & Chao Feng 40 includes:
Dizi Concerto: "Happiness"
Suona Solo: " Homage to the Phoenix by Birds"
Guzheng and Big Drum: "Night is Deep"
Chamber Music: "Dunhuang" and "Rain of Flowers"
