A human is turned into a pig after a sexual assault.
After Roe was assaulted, they discovered their nose had grown long and crooked, hands melted into hooves and ears hairy. They were a pig. After a few disastrous attempts to return to normal life, Roe’s skin begins rotting away, intestines become thick with pus and flies leave them hollowed out. Roe’s body is a husk, and their soul watches it all happen. Can Roe reclaim their autonomy? Can they ever rid themselves of their pigskin?
A new one-hander performance (45-50mins) for victim/survivors of sexual assault, by victim/survivors and allies, combining butoh, audio-immersive texts and interactivity. ‘PIGSKIN’ explores themes of neurodiversity, gender fluidity, dissociation and shame. The production has had a public reading at The Malthouse with Barkly Theatre, a residency with ATYP, and has been awarded the Bluestone Church Arts Melbourne Fringe residency.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Lana Rosalea and Cosima Gilbert are recent VCA BFA (Theatre) graduates, being mentored by Oliver Ayres (NO SEASONS, Fringe 2025), with the goals of destigmatising the AFAB, queer and neurodivergent experiences of survivors. Lana Rosalea’s mission in theatre is to engage communities with catharsis by making fantasy from reality. Their shows, ‘YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE LORE’ (MUSE 2025) and ‘ISMENIA’ (ElevenEleven Theatre, The Guild, 2025), have been praised as “a 90min ride: hilarious, heartfelt and totally unstoppable” as well as “constantly pushing the envelope” (Bronte Lemaire, The Dialog 2025).

Social story can be accessed upon request until the 18th, after the 18th, we will be sending it out to everyone who books a ticket.
RELAXED PERFORMANCE:
- It will be on 2pm on the 10th
- The matinee will also be a masked performance
QUIET SPACE:

- Fidget toys will be always accessible
- Venue is wheelchair accessible
- There will be helpline info always available
- It will be a curtained off area of the church (the church does not have a quiet space, but we have done our best!) and it will have low-lighting levels and allow people to have privacy before and after the show.
INSTALLATION:
- There will be a 'write a letter to Roe' installation containing a pig puppet with a hole in the top and writing materials. The audience, after the show, is invited to write a letter to Roe instead of talking to the creative team about their experience with the content, as sometimes we aren't ready to hear reviews after such a heavy show!
- There will be helplines and help info available around the installation, and there may be a mental health 'I'm here to talk person' who will have more info on the accessiblity of SA health and legal help.
AUDIO IMMERSIVE TEXT:
- The entire performance is on the headphones. There will be headphones next to the box office (inside the church, behind the set (where the audience will be entering from)).
- There are instructions, which the audience will be walked through at the beginning of the show by Cosima.
- The headphones are adjustable by the person wearing them, and there is no pressure for the audience to wear the headphones the whole show.
